Doty Preschool Newsletter
With the luxury of so much snow this early in December, we were lucky enough to bring out the sleds and go sledding.  We have a wonderful hill behind the school to sled on.  The first day we brought out the sleds, the children enjoyed sledding for almost an hour!  The did such great jobs waiting turns, sharing sleds and lugging them back up the hill to take another run!  We will continue to take advantage of the sledding hill as long as mother nature allows.  With the forecast for Sunday night, it sounds like we’ll have many, many days to enjoy.

We learned a new song in circle called “I’m A Little Snowman”.  The children love it.  I’ve included the words inside if you would like to join your children.  Hopefully they will be happy to show you the dance moves.

This week we will start our paper mache snowmen.  This gets very messy so I would recommend clothing that can stand for some mess.

Just a reminder that if school is cancelled for the day, Preschool is also cancelled.  If school is delayed, there will be preschool.

BOOKS

We have been finding a lot of VANGO books in backpacks.  The children get confused between Doty library books and Vango books, causing some unhappy feelings.  To avoid these feelings, please do not leave VANGO books in your children’s backpacks.

NO PRESCHOOL

School will be closed from Monday, December 24th through Tuesday, January 1st, 2008.  It will reopen on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008.  We wish everyone a happy and healthy break!!!

Snack Box

Starting this week, we will have a box in the classroom marked “Snack Box”.  When you arrive with your child, please have them put their snack packs in the box.  This will help them to avoid having to go through their very packed cubbies at snack time.

During the week we . . .

-greeted in circle with “Stand Up Tall” and “Who Has Yellow” etc.
-read I Know A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow.
-sang and danced to “I’m A Little Snowman”
-cut out and decorated mittens.
-“Ten Little Snowmen” Flannel board counting, rhyming story.
-painted with white paint on dark, blue paper.
-went sledding on the hill for a very long time.
-went for a walk into the woods to observe “Spongebob, Squareteeth” our pumpkin. We were surprised to only find one.  It’s possible that there are still two, but we couldn’t find the second one.
-went to the library and Mrs. Woodard read a great story about a man and his old jacket.
-practiced slow/fast, big/little movements while singing Jingle Bells and ringing bells.
-used triangle shapes to make evergreen trees on paper.
-read and discussed “The Three Little Pigs” with Hilary and used props to tell the story.

Words to I’m A Little Snowman

I’m a little snowman,
Short and fat.
Here is my broom stick,
Here is my hat.
When the sun comes out,
I’ll melt away.
Scoop me up so we can play.
